just my thoughts

I really have mixed feelings about telling me kids about things like "the easter bunny", santa clause, the tooth fairy, santa claus etc. I mean are we really expecting them to believe in a GIANT BUNNY who comes into thier house at night to hide eggs and leave candy and treats for them. I personally think its a bit creepy. So did colbyn this year. He freaked out thinking someone was coming into his house and kept saying "no ho ho". He somehow related it to santa coming and was easy about someone coming into the house while he was sleeping. After trying to calm him down with no success I finally took back what I said about "the easter bunny". I told him No Dewy nobody is coming into the house. Ho hos are not coming. Your ok. But how silly did I feel after telling my kids a lie that scared the crap out of them. I dont know how long these traditions of believing in santa will last. My brother had a girlfriend who to this day is still upset with her parents for making her believe in santa only to find out later on in life that he was fictional. she didnt want to be lied to. I dont like to be lied to. We teach out kids about honesty but expect them to believe TALL TALES about deer flying and giant bunnies. silliness if you ask me.

This is why my parents never taught me that Santa was real. He was fun to pretend about, but real? No. Fiction! We didn't believe in any of those characters. People look at me like I lost my child hood but I remember having JUST as much fun and doing all of the traditional stuff. I'm going to have a hard time with teaching my kids about santa, but Josh is adamant.

I agree with all you said but my husband loves to play along with all the pretend stuff. He gets really mad at me if I mention how santa isnt real. So I do it just to make him mad!! HEHEH

alei...!!!!! found ya thru leslie...

my family didn't teach my sis and me about the easter bunny or santa, either. but i let my kids go ahead and believe. Eldest figured it out on his own. Peanut Pie is 10 and, well, he's starting to question santa... i'm surprised he believed for this long!!

personally, i think that if kids want to believe in harmless things that make them happy, let them. kids should be kids for as long as possible. God knows how hard it is once we become adults...
